Children Face Painting Designs
Face painting for children is a common pastime offered at community fairs and similar types of events. Of course there are a number of children face painting designs that may be employed. Here are some ways to choose designs that are right for the occasion.
In some instances, there may be a theme to the event where children face painting designs are employed. For example, a harvest festival that focuses on a vegetable or fruit indigenous to the area may provide the basis for the types of face painting designs that are offered. Designs such as apples, bunches of grapes, or even rows of crops may be a fun and colorful option.
The designs may draw their theme from a holiday as well. Flags may be ideal for an event centered on Flag Day, Memorial Day, or the Fourth of July. Christmas and Easter may feature children face painting designs that center on religious or secular themes associated with the event, such as crosses, Santa faces, Easter eggs or hearts.
Of course, children face painting designs may also be very free form in nature. To that end, the designs may focus on anything from symbols that are indicative of local culture, favored music groups or performers, or even a hobby, such as music or an art form.
The important thing to keep in mind with these types of designs is to keep it fun and easy, so that the child will enjoy the design and have a lot of fun wearing the finished product for the duration of the event. Also, make sure the children face painting designs that are offered are within the skill range of the person who will apply the designs. That way, both the creator and the child will have a great time with the activity.

Kids of all ages delight in seeing their painted faces. There is something primal and yet reassuring when one peers out behind a mask or painted face at the strange and wonderful new you. It’s a bit of a shock at times, often surprisingly but nearly always delightful in the end.
Face painting takes just a few simple skills to master to provide maximum appeal. Face painting ideas can come from anyone and anything, including fantastical elements from literature and film, mundane everyday items that get transformed with a bit of creativity into something unique- even dreams and fantasies can provide fertile raw materials from which to harvest face painting ideas.
Certain themes seem to be favored by girls while others by boys. For example, girls often enjoy having their faces painted along the following lines: butterflies, cats, cuddle animals, puppies, fairies, princesses, bunny rabbits and other small furry creatures, ladybugs, flowers, elves, rainbows and mermaids.
Boys often enjoy being painted as superheroes (like Spiderman or Batman), pirates, more ferocious animals like tigers or lions, bats and other ’spooky’ creatures, clowns, aliens, robots, rock stars and adventure characters.
Both girls and boys share many of the same face painting ideas when it comes to Halloween: ghosts, witches, warlocks, devils, skulls, spider webs, bats, black cats, monsters, aliens, clowns and magical beings of all sorts.
Face painting ideas for adults run the gamut from the comical to the merely whimsical, from the horrifying to the sedate, and from the prosaic to the sublime. It is not uncommon for adults to toss their inhibitions aside and cover themselves with 40 pounds of insulating foam and paint, pieces of furniture or gallons of dyed sugary syrup designed to mimic blood and gore.

Ideas for Face Painting – What are you Waiting For?
Face painting is fun activity that anyone can learn. Whether for use at Halloween for a costume or as a childs activity, everyone can have fun! My interest in face painting began when I took my children to a local art fair at the park. One of the most popular booths was offering face painting. As we stood in the long line all the children were discussing what THEY were going to choose to have painted on their face. They each would happily announced to the painter what they wanted painted on their face. I saw butterflies, hearts, balloons, animals, sports themes, spiders and tons more. The options were limitless. So I bought some paints, practiced on my children and at my daughters birthday party I painted faces. It was a huge hit! You don’t have to be an artist to paint faces and there are many guides and basic rules to follow to be successful.
Materials You Will Need To Get Started
You can’t get just any paint that you find at your local craft store. You will need a paint made especially for face painting in order to get desired results. There are many inexpensive options available that have been tested for safety and that comply with European and American regulations. You can purchase face paint colours individually or in variety packs. To begin I suggest getting a variety pack of not more than 6 colors. Once you get used to them and see how they apply and mix then you may want to order additional colours and application tools.
Which brings me to the next subject.
You will need a variety of a few different types of brushes and some sponges. Brushes come in many different shapes, sizes and materials. So which ones will you need? It is best to get sythetic brushes that are soft for young skin and sensitive faces. I suggest a fine tip brush for small detail, a medium size pointed brush for bigger strokes, and a large brush for covering larger areas. These should be sufficient
to get you started. Because most face paints are water based they are easy to apply and easy to wash or wipe off between applications of different colours. Ordorless baby wipes are an efficient and quick way to clean brushes between applications. As for the sponges, there are many types made specifically for face painting. I usually cut mine in half for two reasons. First, to get more for my money and also to straight
edges that are usefull in painting clean lines if the design calls for it. The sponge is particuliarly good at covering the face to acheive a base colour. For example if you are making a ghost face for Halloween you can use the sponge to cover the face with white paint. If you dampen the sponge first with water it will give you a thinner base or an irredescent look, changing the shading and intensity.
Now that you know the basics. Order your supplies and then go wild. Use your imagination and creativity to make one of a kind designs. Both you and your children will have hours of fun!

Portrait Painting
What is portrait painting? This can be explained as follows: This kind of painting typically depicts a person’s face, from there, the word “portrait” originates. Furthermore, there are many portraits, old and new ones, on which you can see the portraitee’s whole body. A portrait is painted with the intention to show all characteristics and features. The painter tries to emphasize these details in a portrait. Upon the portraitee’s request, little blemishes and other visible details can be omitted once in a while. They are simply kept “secret” as painters would call it.
Already in ancient times (four thousand years BC) high standing personalities had themselves preserved for posterity. Portrait painting originated in ancient Egypt, as many pictures in the pyramids of deceased show, but only in Greece this genre came to perfection.
However, portrait painting was pushed into the background for a long time (until Renaissance) in favor of sculpture.
The main period of portrait painting only began with the Italian painting of high Renaissance, e. g. by artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raffael and Tizian.
In the following centuries, portrait painting blossomed totally. For example, in the 17th century, Peter Paul Rubens was a contract painter in great demand. The ones who could afford it had themselves preserved for posterity by this painter of Baroque, who was already those days well known.
Today, only a few people can afford an original painting made by an artist’s hand. And an original Rubens painting is even more utopia.
With the introduction of photography in the 19th and 20th centuries and the modern communication methods portrait painting changed fundamentally. Since then, also “normal” people, who are striving for a little bit of preservation, and who want to have themselves or their beloved ones painted on a canvas, can have it done at affordable prices.
In today’s contract painting, especially portraits of children, grandchildren, parents and grandparents are very popular. In addition to that, depictions of beloved domestic animals, fancy cars or favorite landscapes are widely asked for.
Nowadays, the ones who can afford it, order a portrait painting as an individual birthday present.
Good painters paint these portraits in such a precise way that their similarity with the originals is astonishing and almost have the effect of photos.
Even changes are possible according to individual demands Upon request, small blemishes can be omitted, as we have already mentioned above.
What characterizes a good portrait painter? A portrait painter must be able to paint a person with all his important features. He must be able to depict exactly what is really visible. You cannot simply go and change a portraitee’s features, because then the result would no longer be a portrait. In the moment of portrayal, the person who has himself portrayed offers the painter a special depiction of himself with his own details and features. Good painters are able to reach exactly this what has been described above. This characterizes them.

How to Face Paint and Create an Original Costume
Deciding on what costume to use or wear for any occasion is always fun. Halloween, costume parties, holiday themes and weddings are all places that more and more people are enjoying coming up with their own costume ideas. Most people feel that their challenge is to come up with the most unique costume at their event so that they stand out over all the rest. Sometimes there is even a challenge where a prize is awarded for the best costumes. Yet another challenge more and more people are facing every day is to come up with something both unique and affordable. Costumes can be expensive. You or your kids can have the most original costumes when you use face painting!
The pressure of having to have the best or most original costume is always present. It doesn’t matter if you are a child in school or an adult; everyone wants to have the most outstanding costume. Do what most others aren’t likely to do and use face paints instead of a “mask” or to perfect your look for your costume.
It’s essential you learn how to face paint properly. First, make sure when you buy face paints, always check to see that they are safe for the skin and non-toxic. Test a small area of the skin before using the paint to check for sensitivities and to prevent tears from bad reactions. Read all of the instructions that come with the face paints for the best results.
It isn’t realistic to expect to be a professional face painter the first time you give it a try, so it is a good idea to practice as much as possible before the actual day when you need to be wearing your costume. If you plan on applying the face paint on a child’s face, it can be much less stressful for both parties if the time it takes to apply the face paint is a short as possible. Practice can help! Using templates or even stencils can help to perfect technique.
If you are going to use face paint on more than just the face, you will want to make sure you have the right tools to do the job. You most likely have a paint brush for small areas and fine details, but you will want to have a sponge if you are going to use face paint on larger areas. Sponges are great for blending and keeping the paint looking smooth. You can often find body paint at the same locations as face paint and it might be a more economical way to go if you are going to paint your body.
Once you’re ready to tackle the “real thing”, you are going to need the right tools close by. Some of the items other face painters have found to be helpful include clean water in bowls, brushes, sponges, towels or washcloths and face paints. Paper towel is a favorite among professional face painters as they are always dry and handy. Make sure that your brushes are always clean and never have another color on them before using new colors. This will ensure the kind of look you want from your face paints.
When you are ready to apply the face paint, paint all the way up to the hair line and under the chin. If you need a more complete look, paint all the way down the neck past the collar bone. Apply face paint in very thin layers. It dries quickly and is less likely to crack when the face paint is thin on the skin.
Once you become comfortable and learn how to face paint, you will most likely use them instead of masks and other costumes. They are original, fun and unique every time. Face paints are also easy on the wallet and they allow for maximum visibility as opposed to wearing a mask. Face paints have so many benefits; it seems like a shame not to use them!

Artist Albert Oehlen’s Art Work and Paintings at the Saatchi Gallery
Albert Oehlen and Jonathan Meese both make paintings about failure: of the function of art, politics and ideological systems. Working collaboratively, they explore these terrains in a hard-hitting and overtly humorous way. Situation creates a highly sexed still life: a mangled-faced female figure reduced to tits and a brain. Dealing with issues of visual ideals and sexual politics, their cyborg superwoman is less an archetype of perfection than the suggestive abstract sculptures on the plinth beside her.
Describing their merger as a courtly affair of awkward politeness punctuated by artistic embarrassment, Albert Oehlen & Jonathan Meese unite forces as a way to expand both practice and dialogue. Like a conceptual game of tennis, an artwork is begun, and then bantered back and forth until it gains a life of its own. For the artists, it’s a way to accept loosing control over a work, explore the possibility of spontaneous action and reaction, and stamp out self-indulgent excess like a bad habit. The end results are both breathtaking and funny. Storm cheekily sets computer-generated porn as the hot-bod for a wild-armed monstress: a goddess of violent temper and salvation.
Albert Oehlen provides the photographic material and both artists take turns painting around it. None of these works are immediately recognisable as Albert Oehlen or Meese, and that’s what makes them so good. Like a nuclear fusion, the two become one; an invincible super-artist refining the best qualities of both.Albert Oehlen and Jonathan Meese both make paintings about failure: of the function of art, politics and ideological systems.
